Ain't This Somethin'?
I ran into a fellow bus-from-BKK passenger outside the hot pot restaurant where K. and I had lunch. Actually, she ran into me--as she, Amy, recognized me as the guy who bolted from the visa-scam restaurant near the border and headed straight for Poi Pet-e-visa in hand.
There's a long story to be told about what a small world this is but I'm in a hurry today so I'll post some links and let the newspaper articles and other people's blogs tell the story.

I'm now looking forward to the long story. I couldn't be more convinced that you have few rivals in the what a small world this is department.
I'm convinced solely on the basis of who much fun you'd be to run into on the road - just to hang for an afternoon or evening. There's a chain reaction among travelers, don't you think?
Anyway. Waiting waiting, hoping biker sails the rest of the way. Oh that's a lie. I hope he has one or two more misshaps. Otherwise, where's the story? (Why yes, it IS easy for me to say.)
How much fun. Not 'who' much fun. Jesus. You'd think I could take 3 seconds to scan. Proof-reading is asking too much, but a little scan?
Shit.
Hey Booda--We UAE'ers all read about the biker's lost in the Gulf News--a newsworthy story because thefts like that just doesn't occur in the UAE believe it or not. We leave keys in cars and cars doors unlocked, windows wide open. So when this feller's bike went missing it was front page news. His travel story was actually only an added curisousity and a yawn as, hell, every western ex-pat has their own travel tales--it's a perk and a sell on the job and location. Who hasn't motorbiked on several continents? But the theft--that was news.
Funny. He and his girlfriend weren't biking to Siem Reap but riding the same border bound bus as me. I was noteworthy to them for being hip to the scam of the near border restaurant visa selling scam, so when I bolted from the pack, I stood out, she took note. Later in Siem Reap she approached me, remembering me as the savvy traveler who didn't pay double the amount for a visa becaue I'd bought mine online. Then the "where'r'you froms and where'r'y'headeds ensued". We connected instantly on the UAE as they'd been stranded there after the theft for four months. "You may have read about it" she commented. S'matter'a'fact, I had! So now when I go back, during water cooler talk I get to say, hey remember that feller who had his bike stolen in Ajman, well guess who I ran into in Siem Reap? His girlfriend! And they were headed to Laos as well. I like cosmic coinkidinks, don't you?
