Putting Out the Flags So to Speak

I can't imagine a barroom full of beer sloppy drunk Americans standing en masse and breaking into the national anthem during a football game. American patriotism is cute and icky and the same time; charmingly naive with its yellow ribbons while annoyingly and maybe a in your face spooky(every third house in suburbia puts out a flag year round just for the hell of it).

I think I learned something about the British national character last night. They are patriotic but it takes a lot of beer and a football match to show it publicly.

American patriotism is very off putting to me. It is parochial and very narrow minded.

Frankly, I've yet to see any patriotism that doesn't threaten to bobble over the edge. Really.

And while Britishy people might not launch into national anthems often, just you criticize their weather. That island mentality shows itself pretty ferociously.
